Google search celebrates Singapore’s National Day with Merlion doodle

SINGAPORE — Singaporeans who tried searching on Google this morning would have been greeted by a special doodle featuring the Merlion.
Clicking on the doodle will take web users to media content and search results related to this year’s National Day celebrations.
This year’s doodle is not the first time Google has celebrated National Day or special occasions in Singapore with a bespoke design.
The first time Singapore got its very own Google doodle was for National Day in 2009 which also featured the Merlion. Since then, there have been other non-NDP related doodles specifically for Singapore: Singapore Art Festival in 2010 and Zubir Said’s 107th Birthday in 2014.
In 2015, in conjunction with the nation’s 50th birthday, Google held a competition Doodle 4 Google 2015, where childrden were invited to create doodles with the theme “Singapore, the next 50 years”. The winner was 8-year-old Moh Journ Haydn from Beacon Primary School.
